The 2018 Hertzel Cup was played on a warm, sunny day with temperatures in the low 40s. 44 teams competed at five Clubs on 17 paddle tennis courts. Tyler Fraser and Lee Lonergan (Tyler is now a 3 time champion) won in a dominating performance defeating Rusty Schubert and Brian Mitchell 6-0 6-1.
In the semifinals, Fraser / Lonergan played the number 4 seed, Reed /Pierce in a tightly contested match, at 4-4 with Reed and Pierce serving a long 10 minute game turned into the break of service for Tyler and Lee to win the first set. . In the second set, the Fraser/Lonergan style of play took its toll on the Reed /Pierce team and Tyler and Lee won in two sets. In the other semi – final Mike Todd and Ryan Floth played Rusty Schubert and Brian Mitchell in a battle of experienced veterans. After a long 2 hour match Rusty and Brian came through to set up the finals.
In the finals, Mitchell and Schubert tried to use their experience to their advantage but the length, youth and skills of Tyler and Lee were too much for the veterans. Congratulations to Tyler and Lee on their 2018 Hertzel Cup Championship!!!!!
