What a great day!

This year’s Hertzel Cup was completed yesterday with 32 teams competing at 6 different clubs. 63 matches were contested on a cold, breezy, sunny day with main draw finals contested at the Camargo Club. Number 1 seeds Eric Toth and Joe Leytze defeated Doug Jones and Josh Guttman in a tightly contested 2 hour match 6-7 6-2 6-3. Eric and Joe are both past champions of the City Championship and have now added to their extensive list of platform tennis accomplishments. It was a joy to watch…. Congratulations!

2012 Hertzel Cup Champions

At lunch, all contestants traveled to Kenwood Country Club to sign the championship flags, and take the tournament picture. Cindy Hertzel shared some beautiful thoughts and comments stirring all of our memories of Robby and his love for the game of Platform. Kenwood Tennis Pro Josh Heller was kind enough to risk life and limb to take our Tournament Picture above the paddle court as all the contestants lined up around the net.

Thank you to Doug Postler at The Camargo Club, Josh Heller at Kenwood Country Club, Heather Prop at Hype Park Country Club, Thad Reed at Cincinnati Country Club, Indian Hill Winter Club, and Cincinnati Sports Club for sharing their outstanding Platform Facilities for this year’s event. Thanks to Mark Kebe and the Midwesterns for donating the platform tennis balls used for the championship. Special Appreciation to Cindy, Robby, Holden, and Caroline Hertzel for being apart of the event and helping with the Championship Flags, Trophy Presentation and providing the Back Draw Finalists with the Hallmark Hertzel Caramel Chocolate Apples!

At the end of the day the Budweiser was all gone and the sun was dipping low in the sky the day was punctuated by a special Trophy Presentation to Eric and Joe. As each player held the Hertzel Cup Champions Board, Cindy shook and popped the cork off a bottle of Champagne and the bubbly flowed over the heads of the new Champions… Perfect!
